E2T2 Project using EBSCO

by Maryann Angeroth

November 12, 2006

This information is copied from the Northwest Iowa Enhancing Education Through Technology website.

I attended the E2T2 presentations to the DE. There were many wonderful resources presented. One that you might want to put into your bag of tricks is: http://www.nwia-e2t2.k12.ia.us/

This website is dedicated to those who have ever tried to find reading materials on the web and said, “There’s got to be a better way!” If you are looking to improve the reading achievement of your students, you have found the right site. It allows for teachers and students to quickly find articles on any topic. What is even more unique is that after finding the topic you want, with the click of a mouse you are taken directly to the article to read or print---and the articles are sorted by lexile level. This means that the struggling reader has the same opportunity as the proficient reader to find information currently being taught in their classes. It may be as simple as finding information on a person like George Washington, as complex as the Holocaust, as fun as rock music, or as interesting as space exploration. This site not only offers articles but full units as well. As the site develops, teachers will be able to view demonstrations by other teachers in their own content area on reading strategies such as vocabulary, QAR, read alouds and many others. Furthermore, this site will also provide information on how to determine lexile levels for a student, tutorials on the use of polycoms, how to conduct walk throughs and offer direct links to Ebsco, Clipart.com, Multimedia Archive, SIRS Researcher, United Streaming, World Book Online, Atomic Learning, AccuWeather and Iowa AEA Online. The goal of this website is for you to have a simple, easy to use, timesaving tool that will support you in improving your students reading skills and strategies. So here is our advice to you, begin by entering the “Articles/Units/Multimedia” section and soon you will be telling others, “There is a better way! ”
