How to complete the reflection

January 24, 2008

HOW TO:

A.    Big ideameans either Fractions or addition of fractions.  Whatever the key ideas over time a teacher would like to preview and review.

B.     Potential questionsshould be the ones teachers have ready prior to teaching the lesson.  They can use the handouts given by Heidi.

C.     Student understands allows the teacher to analyze what strategies or skills the student(s) already have in order to be successful

D.    Student needs allows the teacher to write down what the student(s) need in order to be successful

E.     Based on the MDP a teacher just did and the student responses what is the next MDP you plan on using based on strengths or weaknesses.

a.     Example, First MDP “Jackie has 159 cupcakes.  She has 18 boxes to package them.  How many would fit in each box?”

b.     Student data shows me that most kids could not do it in two ways so my next MDP is the same problem and use a think a loud

“I know if I had 10 in each box I would have too many, I would have 180.  I would have 21 too many (159 + 1 = 160 and then 20 more to get to 180).  So that is only 1 group of 18.  So I need 9 in each box.”  Now I want you to solve it in another way.

So I would write: Same question with a think aloud and allow students another chance to solve it in another way.
